Answers
1. who is welcome at VELA VEGA?
It is important to us that ALL people feel welcome - no matter where someone comes from, how someone looks, whom someone loves and what someone believes in. The prerequisite for this is a respectful and appreciative interaction, from a mix of differently thinking people, who spend a good time together. We are a small community of volunteers, guests and workshop participants and we would love for you to join us - to cook, eat, socialize or go on outings.
But VELA VEGA is also a participatory project. Permaculture is not just limited to garden design, but also to living with and in nature. So if you live in the city and would like to realize yourself in the garden or learn something about permaculture, would like to contribute your art or culture, or just want to do crafts, feel free!
2. what is the best way to get to you?
The fastest and cheapest way is by plane, the most ecological and comfortable way is by train and the most expensive and longest way is by car.
3. I would like to travel by plane.
Which airport is closer to you - Palermo or Catania? Is there a good bus or train connection from there?
There is a Etna-Bus every hour directly from Catania Airport to Licata. It's a nice 2.5 hour trip that will give you your first impressions of this beautiful island. From the bus station in Licata one of our crew will come to pick you up, for more than 5 people a bus cab can be ordered.
We can also help you with the flight booking and send you the bus schedule in advance if you wish. You can buy the tickets for the bus either in advance at www.checkmybus.com or directly at the bus stop at the airport.
From Palermo the journey is a bit more complicated, you first have to take the airport bus to the bus station Palermo and from there you have to take the ATA-bus, mostly via Agrigento, to Licata. The trip then takes 3.5 hours and the bus runs only 2x a day.
4. I arrive late in the evening with the plane in Catania and also fly back very early, is there then still/already a bus?
The last bus to Licata leaves at 20:00 and the first at 7:00, so it is advisable to book an overnight stay in Catania for the first and last day. For the return flight, be sure to take into account the 2.5 hour bus ride and that you need to be at the airport at least 2 hours earlier.
5. Do I need a car with you? Where is the best place to book a rental car? And is it possible to park at your place?
VELA VEGA is very remote, so the nearest towns Lictata, Gela or Butera can only be reached by car. Also if you want to make trips to Agrigento, the Scala dei Turchi or Piazza Armerina, it is advisable to book a rental car.
At the airport there are some car rental companies that you can book from home, but also here on site there is a car rental company that will bring the car to Licata.
We have parking for 6 vehicles, it does not matter if car, van or caravan, which we provide free of charge.
6. I would like to come by with the caravan. Is there a possibility to park at your place and maybe use the bathroom and charge my technical devices?
In front of the VELA VEGA you can park directly in the dunes with a view of the sea. But there is also the possibility to park directly on the property, the bathroom and sockets, as well as WLan, you can use for a donation, at any time.
7. Do you have a working WLan?
We provide, all guests and visitors, free wifi.
On the upper floor it is unlimited (about 105Mbps). In the lower apartments, we have 200GB which is sufficient for normal use, but not for streaming movies.
8. Is it possible to rent a bike?
We have a fat bike that we provide for a donation, then from October 2022 there will be two bikes for free use.
9. How far is it to the sea?
If you walk VERY slowly it will take you 5 minutes to walk, even from the campfire on the beach the walk can seem very long. But normally, for the 200m,
in 2 minutes at the water.
10. Do you have beach chairs and umbrellas and do I have to bring a beach towel? What about yoga mats?
In each apartment you will find beach umbrellas as well as beach chairs, which can be used in the garden as well as on the beach. On each bed there are large towels that you can take to the beach, but you should shake them out well after use.
We also have yoga mats, but only the basic variety, but sooner or later we will upgrade to better yoga mats.
11. Do I have to bring bed linen and towels?
Bed linen is included in the price. Towels can be rented for an extra charge of 3,-€, but we ask you not to take the towels to the beach, but there are beach towels on each bed.
12. How about the catering on site?
In each of the two apartments there is a kitchen with a refrigerator where you can prepare your meals. There are also shared kitchens for the rooms, which have a basic supply of vinegar and oil, spices, flour and sugar, and of course coffee. If you come by rental car, you are welcome to stock up on groceries at the supermarkets before you arrive.
Otherwise, we go 1x a week to the weekly market and also to the supermarket in Licata and buy plenty, so that nothing stands in the way of a joint cooking and eating in the evening. In Licata there are also very good restaurants and pizzerias that we like to visit and you can join us.
13. How do you define community?
"In sociology and ethnology, community refers to a manageable social group whose members are closely connected to each other through a strong sense of "we" - often over generations. The community is considered the most original form of living together and the basic element of a society." This means that we live together for a limited period of time, help each other, go on excursions together, cook and eat together.
14. What about the current Corona entry regulations?
Since the regulations change almost weekly, we would like to ask you to check the website of the German Foreign Office to make sure that nothing stands in the way of your entry and exit.
15. Do I have to be vaccinated or present a PCR test in order to stay overnight with you, or is a previous quick test sufficient?
We at VELA VEGA adhere to the respective regulations and do not make any exceptions. However, there will be no discrimination with us, everyone is welcome, we are inclusive, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated and even the religion does not matter.
